ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP:
The United Kingdom Medical Research Council (MRC) in partnership with GSK and LSHTM is funded a 2 year masters in medical statistics.
The scholars will spend the first year at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine pursuing a MSc degree in Medical Statistics.
In the second year, the scholars will be required to do a one year professional attached in one of the African centres associated with the research programme of the MRC Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) at LSHTM.
The professional attachment is to enable scholars develop their statistical and research skills. Whereby, scholars will be working on studies with guidance from Tropical Epidemiology Group scientists working in respective centres.
The scholars will continually receive mentoring, supervision and support from experts in statistics for all the duration of their fellowship.
While at the placement centre, the scholars will be exposed to different aspects of research including study design, data management, analysis and reporting of scientific findings/evidence.
The fellowship is highly competitive. For instance, in 2018 there were over 1000 applicants

Applicants for this fellowship must meet the following criteira;
- Be a resident in and a citizen of a country in sub-Saharan Africa
- Graduated with an excellent degree with a background in mathematics, statistics or a related subject
- Have at least 1 year of professional work experience in medical statistics or epidemiology field
- Candidates shortlisted will be interviewed by telephone. Thereafter, successful candidates will be required to undertake an English language assessment.
